Allow 10–15 hours for the campaign
Campaign length versus completionist time
| Estimate | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Approximately 10–15 hours | The developer's campaign estimate, with the actual duration depending on your pair's communication and puzzle-solving pace. |
| Around 15 hours of content | The developer's broader description of the full adventure. |
| Completionist play | Additional activity includes finding eight Octodoc plushies, investigating the optional jigsaw, replaying as the opposite Explorer, and viewing both endings. |
These campaign estimates apply to the full adventure. The separate demo covers the opening area and its initial assignments, so its scope is much smaller. For completionist planning, use the campaign estimate as a starting point and arrange further sessions around the goals you still want to finish.
Plan sessions around checkpoints and your partner
Your partner's perspective matters throughout the campaign: you are often separated and must describe what you see through your walkie-talkies. Each Explorer has a distinct role and their own high-tech tool. Give yourselves room to understand each other's information before deciding how much progress to expect that evening.
- Agree on the session's goal with your partner. Choosing story progress, exploration, or cleanup gives you a shared expectation about pace.
- Aim for a saved checkpoint as your stopping target. The checkpoint system lets you spread the campaign across sittings.
- Record the cleanup goals you still want to tackle. A short list helps you give the next session a clear purpose.
Resume your Journey or replay a chapter
- Select Change from the main menu. This begins the route used to set up a checkpoint replay.
- Select Start New Journey. This gives the host access to the checkpoint choice for the new Journey.
- Have the host choose the previously unlocked checkpoint you want to revisit. You can return to that part of the adventure without replaying the entire campaign.
Chapter selection also lets you return to the final stage after finishing an ending and attempt the alternative choice. That makes an ending replay a separate cleanup goal you can schedule after your first completion. Leave time for the final-stage replay itself when arranging that session with your partner.
Keep Octodoc cleanup in the same Journey
There is no reliable separate completionist hour total to use as a deadline. Your remaining work can include exploration for plushies, the optional jigsaw, another role, and the alternative ending. Plan those goals individually so you and your partner can decide what to pursue after finishing the story.
